Taken to a New Level

I know that God’s favor and providence is on me no matter what may come in life. This year I felt like God was going to take me in a different direction—to a new level—but I wasn’t really sure what that was going to look like. After gathering with others around me to pray about what is next, I knew that God wanted to bring me to a position where I would be used for His will, somewhere where I can be a trailblazer, lead more, and do work for His Kingdom. As I entered into the role of a free agent this year, I began talking with different teams and kept praying that God’s will would happen for my life and career. I asked God to close the doors that I wasn’t supposed to go through and open only the ones that He wanted me to walk through.

The way the Browns welcomed me in was different from all the other teams that I talked to. They told me what they saw in me as a linebacker and a player and how they wanted me to fit into their system. They told me they saw me as a guy who could come in and lead, someone who’s able to do big things for their team, which was my prayer as well. Without me saying a word about what my passion and vision was, they relayed it back to me. Immediately I knew this was God’s will; I didn’t feel like I had to come in and prove myself—it was a perfect fit! I’m so excited for this opportunity.

Moving in a Mighty Way

It is always hard to leave a community and city that you’ve become invested in. The community that developed on the Jets was unique. At first the group of believers that gathered was small but it grew significantly over the span of four years. There are great leaders on that team who love the Lord and really care about each other. Seeing that happen in a place like New York was really incredible—God has moved in a mighty way within that team.

Going from Mississippi to New York was a big culture change for me and my family. They say, “If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.” We know what it’s like to go to a very new environment. We’re looking forward to what God has for us in this new community.

Now as my family and I move to a new environment once again, I know that we are being brought there for a purpose. I’m coming to Cleveland with a love for the Lord and for my teammates and I can’t wait to spend time getting to know each one of them. I see every locker room as a mission field; God is going to do major work in Cleveland and I’m excited to be a part of it.

It’s also great to see how the fans in Cleveland are really die hard about their team; they have already welcomed me and my family with open arms.

I’m honored to become a part of this organization; I see the Browns moving in the right direction for success. I’m a hard-working guy, passionate about life, football, and faith and I want to come alongside others who feel the same way. Of course I want to win championships on the football field, but I also want to win hearts for the Kingdom of heaven and I’m coming to Cleveland to do both.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16
