We were able to talk with with San Diego Chargers’ wide receiver, Dontrelle Inman, to talk about how he is living in the increase of Christ, his faith journey and the mentors that have been in his life. Here’s what he had to say.

What effect does your faith have on your lifestyle?

Faith affects every aspect of my life. It affects how my family operates, the way I go about my work, and the confidence I have. I cannot separate my faith from my life, it is my life.

Describe how your Journey with Christ began.

In October of 1999, when I was 16 years old, I heard a young man who was preaching at the age of 18 and I was amazed that someone that young could have such great faith. This really caused me to search my own heart and brought me to place my faith in Christ for myself.

Who have been the mentors in your life? How did God bring these people into your life?

My first mentor was George Morris, the football chaplain at the University of Virginia, he was, and still is to this day, such a great influence on me. Anytime I feel alone, he’s there to remind me that Christ is with me no matter what. Also, Pastor Miles McPherson, has really taught and challenged me a lot in my faith. Darrell Stuckey and Danny Woodhead have been great Christian teammates for me as well.

What does the Increase of Christ mean to you?

Last year I was introduced to this concept and it opened my eyes to show me that I need to put myself aside and put God first—this has made the world of difference in my walk with Christ. This belief has really opened a lot of doors for me to be serving others and trusting God.

What is your Life Verse? Why?

Psalm 144:1-2, “Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle, He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.”

– This verse came to me at a time when I was really struggling personally. This verse made my feel whole; it helped me to stop worrying about what I couldn’t control and start trusting God with it all.
