Former NFL defensive back, Miles McPherson seemed to have everything in life that he ever wanted. He was living the high life, when he noticed that a few fellow players were living for something else.  He began to wonder if there was more to life than what he knew.

“I lived life on the edge,” says Miles with regret. “I got to the point when I realized that I was throwing away the best opportunity that I had. I just said, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’”

“But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86.15

One night some of Miles’ teammates shared the Gospel with him. He fought all night long with God until the early morning when he finally surrendered.

“I said, ‘I’m done,’” Miles recalls, with a smile of relief. “I’m gonna give God the commitment I’ve given football, the commitment I’ve given drugs and the commitment that I’ve given fun.”

Miles gave his life to Christ and has lived a very different life ever since. He has come to learn the reliability of God’s love and found a new hope in what Jesus has to offer.

“The decisions we make,” emphasizes Miles, “can drag us to the bottom of the barrel, and it’s there that we find the love of God.”

Having retired from his career in the NFL, Miles is now the pastor of The Rock Church in San Diego and travels the country speaking to others about the salvation of Christ.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28.19-20
